Most supermarket air fresheners, sprays, plug-ins and even candles, even the good quality soy ones, are full of harmful toxic chemicals. Any scented product that uses the term ‘fragranceor perfume’ in the ingredients list can contain a cocktail (not the kind I normally like!) of chemicals without having to put it on the label. It's a trademark thing!

In recent years, plastic water bottles have been under scrutiny for their environmentally unfriendly characteristics. Almost every hour, close to 250,000 plastic bottles enter landfill and comprise of close to 50 percent of all recyclable waste.
When it comes to environmentally damaging materials, plastic is a serious offender. Between bags, bottles, food containers and packaging, the waste really piles up. And with so many single-use plastic products now a part of everyday life, the damage they cause is ever-increasing.
Let’s face it – if plastic will be here forever then we might as well use it!
The best and most obvious thing that you can do NOW for the environment is to reduce the amount of plastic you use in the first place. Carry your own shopping bags, invest in a reusable water bottle, and say no to straws. The next step is to make sure that you properly recycle the plastic that you do end up having to throw away.
Recycling plastic is a great way to alleviate much of the environmental burden caused by plastic production. Each tonne of recycled plastic saves requires about 60% less energy to make, creates less greenhouse emissions and reduces the amount of plastic in landfill and oceans significantly.
Although, recycled plastic is not the perfect solution, when compared to other resources, it still has great potential as a reusable resource and helps to solve the huge plastic waste problem throughout the world today.
So, for NOW, the best thing to do is to avoid plastic use as much as possible.
Reuse and then recycle. Sometimes it is better to take plastic waste home to recycle rather than just throw it into a bin, you'll see me do this often but I will usually choose to buy glass containers if out and about.
